The present invention relates to a process for treating the overhead gases of atmospheric distillation. The overhead gases of atmospheric distillation consist of fuel gases and liquefied petroleum gases or LPGs. The overhead gases of atmospheric distillation have very little pressure and are either sent to flare compressors then to the fuel gas network, or directly flared. However, LPGs are gases that can be made use of commercially. The process for treating fuel gas resulting from atmospheric distillation containing LPGs proposes to bring the fuel gas into contact with a stabilized absorbent liquid hydrocarbon within a stabilization unit so that a portion of the LPGs present in the fuel gas dissolve in the stabilized hydrocarbon in order to obtain a liquid hydrocarbon enriched in recoverable LPGs.
