<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a deflection in a first direction of a holding member. <P>SOLUTION: A first image sensor measures the density of a ladder pattern chart formed on the back surface of an intermediate transfer belt. A storage unit stores a first function indicating the correspondence between the distance from the first image sensor to the back surface of the intermediate transfer belt, and the contrast of the ladder pattern chart obtained as a result of measurements performed by the first image sensor. A controller calculates the contrast between a white region and a black region adjacent to each other on the ladder pattern chart by using the density of the ladder pattern chart measured by the first image sensor. The controller determines a distance corresponding to the calculated contrast by using the first function stored in the storage unit, and detects a deflection of the intermediate transfer belt in the width direction by using the determined distance as the distance from the white and black regions to the back surface of the intermediate transfer belt. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
