<p>Ballast water taken into a ship from a first body of water and discharged at a second body of water can introduce aquatic invasive species ("AIS") into the second body of water. The invention relates to a hybrid system and method in which ballast water exchange is combined with ballast water treatment to prevent the spread of AIS. The ballast water treatment portion of the hybrid system uses a disinfectant administered in metered doses. Preferably, the disinfectant is chlorine.</p> |
