<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine capable of accurately and definitely detecting an opened/closed state of a cover. <P>SOLUTION: Each of a pair of shielding plates 26 provided on an operation panel 27 includes a fixed plate 33 fixed on the operation panel 27, a movable plate 34 pivoted on the fixed plate 33 to be freely opened/closed, and an opening/closing spring 32. When the cover 28 is in an opened state, the movable plate 34 is placed in a closed state by biasing force of the opening/closing spring 32, and hence, a magnetic circuit of a magnet 25 provided on a rear face of a tip end of the cover 28 is disconnected, so as to open a contact point of a lead switch 20. When the cover 28 is in a closed state, the movable plate 34 is placed in an opened state owing to a pressure applied by projecting ribs 30 formed on both sides of the magnet 25 in the cover 28, and hence, the contact point of the lead switch 20 is closed by the magnetic circuit of the magnet 25.
