<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil in which a lead holder 16 rotates to one direction by reciprocation of a tip member 12 by writing, the lead 14 can be rotated along with the rotation of this lead holder 16, and the display that shows the rotation of the lead 14 can be visually checked from the window part 12A of the tip member 12. <P>SOLUTION: A slide member 3 synchronizes with the back and forth movement of a chuck 5 and a connector 9 by writing and moves back and forth. Then, a front cam 17A of a sliding member 17, a front cam 13B of a rotary member 13, a rear cam 17B of the sliding members 17, and a rear cam 13C of the rotary member 13 contact mutually almost simultaneously, and the rotary member 13 rotates to one direction. A lead holder 16 is rotated each predetermined angle synchronizing with the rotary member 13 and the lead 14 held in the lead holder 16 with the moderate power is rotated.
