A system (10) for controlling operation of at least one machine (12) at a worksite (16) includes controls (17) operable under the control of a first entity (20) to operate a first machine (12) to perform one or more tasks at the worksite. The system may also include a portable communication device (210) having a user interface (214) operable to receive a machine-stop command from a second entity. The portable communication device may be operable to transmit a machine-stop signal in response to receiving the machine-stop command from the second entity. The system may also include at least one information processor (20) configured to stop the first machine in response to the transmission of the machine-stop signal from the portable communication device.
