<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus with zoom lens acquiring a high-resolution image with less deterioration in image quality when adjusting a light quantity by a bright zoom lens with a small Fno. <P>SOLUTION: The image pickup apparatus includes: a zoom lens including a first positive lens group with positive refractive power, and a first negative lens group with negative refractive power disposed on an object side of the first positive lens group, in which during variation in power from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end, the distance between the first positive lens group and the first negative lens group decreases; and an electronic image pickup element disposed in an image position by the zoom lens and having an imaging pixel array disposed two-dimensionally. The zoom lens further includes: an aperture stop that is disposed from a lens closest to the image side in the first negative lens group to a lens closest to the image side in the first position lens group; and a resin light-quantity reduction filter that is disposed on the image side of the lens closest to the image side in the first positive lens group, that is insertable/removable with respect to an optical path, and that has birefringence.
