A jack is provided for use in a plug-jack combination in a communication system. The jack comprises plug interface contacts for making an electrical connection with plug contacts, a compensation zone comprising a first structure that provides a first coupling between a wire of a 5 first wire-pair and a wire of a second wire-pair; the first coupling has a first magnitude. A second structure provides a second coupling between the wire of the first wire-pair and another wire of the second wire-pair; the second coupling has a second magnitude. The first coupling and the second coupling have opposite polarities, the polarity of the first coupling provides compensation, the polarity of the second coupling provides crosstalk, and a ratio between the 0 first magnitude and the second magnitude varies with frequency. The jack also includes a near end crosstalk zone providing a third coupling that has a third magnitude. The compensation zone is placed between the plug interface contacts and the near-end crosstalk zone is in a signal pathway of the jack. |
