<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restore a setting value free of errors without increasing user's troublesomeness even if the type of equipment increases. <P>SOLUTION: Setting information and identification information for determining the type of an image forming apparatus body are backed up in an external storage medium. In restoring the setting value, it is determined whether the setting information should be corrected, and correction is performed as necessary.
