Combustion method with compression ignition for direct-injection internal combustion engines, in which combustion method the injection jets (22) are divided at the jet divider contour (16) in each case into a first part quantity (33), into a second part quantity (34) and into third part quantities (35), wherein the first part quantity (33) enters into the piston recess (12), the second part quantity (34) enters via the piston step (10) into a region between the piston crown (11) and the cylinder head (5), and the third part quantities (35), starting from the respective injection jet (22), widen on both sides in the circumferential direction in opposite directions along the piston step (10), and the respective third part quantities (35) collide with one another between two adjacent injection jets (22) within the piston step (10) and are deflected radially to the inside, wherein the first part quantity (33) and the second part quantity (34) form a first combustion front and a second combustion front, and the part quantities (35) which are in each case deflected jointly to the inside form a third combustion front (36) radially to the inside into a gap (37) between the injection jets (22), wherein the injection jets (22) are deflected upstream of the jet divider contour (16) in the direction of the piston (8) by means of a resulting flow (38) formed essentially from a swirl (26), a squish gap flow (31) and a jet flow (32). |
