For motor vehicles of at least two vehicle series which are assigned to different vehicle classes, a particularly cost-effective production of the body shell for the motor vehicles is achieved by forming only the front portion of the rear longitudinal members differently depending on vehicle class. The centre and rear portions of the rear longitudinal members are formed uniformly across all vehicle classes.
