PURPOSE: A discharge lamp is provided to prevent a crack generation of a glass rod by applying a compressive stress to the glass rod by a sealing unit. CONSTITUTION: A sealing unit(3) is formed in both ends of a light emitting pipe in which a pair of electrodes is arranged. A glass rod(5) is laid within the sealing unit. A metal foil(6) is installed on the surface of the glass rod. The metal foil is electrically combined with the electrode. A thermal expansion coefficient of a glass member which forms the glass rod is smaller than a thermal expansion coefficient of a glass member which forms the sealing unit. The sealing unit is made of quartz glass. |
