<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope system capable of increasing an extending range of a distance between an objective lens and a stage. <P>SOLUTION: A microscope system includes: a stage 10 on which a specimen is to be placed; an objective lens 25 for collecting at least an observation light from the specimen on the stage 10; a transmitted illumination optical system for irradiating a transmitted illuminating light onto the specimen as an illuminating light emitted from a light source to be transmitted through the specimen; and a microscope main body 20 having a base part 21 retaining the transmitted illumination optical system, a support post 22 standing upright on the base part 21, and an epi-illumination optical system provided on an end portion of the support post 22 on a side different from the base part 21 side, the system for irradiating an epi-illuminating light onto the specimen as the illuminating light emitted from the light source to be reflected to the specimen.
