<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid breakage of power generation/consumption balance while traveling at a virtual gear position that is set based on the relation between the number of revolutions of an engine and a vehicle speed. <P>SOLUTION: A derive control device is included in a hybrid vehicle which has an engine, motor, generator, and power storage device, and sets regulation number of revolutions Nemax and Nemin for regulating the number of revolutions of the engine, thereby controls the number of revolutions of the engine so that a ratio of the number of revolutions of the engine to a vehicle speed becomes constant.
