The vehicle (100) has wheels arranged at a supporting structure by a wheel suspension element (118) e.g. suspension arm (110) or stabilizer, and an attenuation device (122) for structural attenuation of the wheel suspension element. A sensor device determines whether side collision of an object on the vehicle takes place or not. The attenuation device is activated by the sensor device on a vehicle side that is turned away from the object such that frictional resistance between the vehicle and a road on which the vehicle moves is reduced through bending of the wheels.
