PURPOSE: An adaptive cruise control apparatus and a method thereof are provided to secure travelling safety of a vehicle, by sensing a speed bump on a travelling road and controlling the vehicle not to accelerate while the vehicle passes the speed bump. CONSTITUTION: An adaptive cruise control apparatus comprises a sensor part, an engine driving part and a control part. The sensor part senses a speed bump(210) on a travelling road. The engine driving part increases the speed of a vehicle by increasing engine output. The control part controls the engine driving part not to accelerate the vehicle while the vehicle passes the speed bump.
