A resilient supporting surface for a mattress or chair seat consists of an elastic plate 1 of rubber or polyvinyl chloride, having perforations 3 and strengthening ribs 2 around its edges, attached to a frame 7 by means of textile straps 4 passing through perforations and the ends of which are nailed to the frame at 8. A plurality of plates may be connected together by straps or hooks to form greater lengths.
