A pre-installation base is placed on the sea bed, the base having pile guide holes 2 and structure installation points 3, 3a. Piles 4 are then driven through the holes 2 where they may be grouted in place. A support structure, eg jacket 5, is then lowered on to the base 1 with the engagement points 7, 7a of the legs 6,6a of the structure 5 engaging the installation points 3, 3a of the base. To aid in installation, one leg or one installation point may be longer than the others, and each installation point 3, 3a may have a flared end 9 to receive a conical stab cone 10 on the end of each leg 6, 6a of the jacket. The legs may then be grouted in place in the installation points 3, 3a. Alternatively, the installation points 3, 3a and/or engagement points 7,7a may have parts of a quick-locking mechanism. The jacket 5 may have three legs 6,6a which extend at an angle to the vertical and may be connected at the top by a transition piece (8, fig.3) eg of concrete.
|
