917,789. Electric lighting fittings. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 29, 1961. [Feb. 13, 1961], No. 5277/61. Class 75 (4). A lantern, especially for street lighting, has a translucent envelope 15 comprising a single piece hollow extrusion of plastic material, e.g. methacrylic resin, having a completely closed periphery and a substantially uniform crosssection, a downwardly open channel extending along the length of the extrusion, the side flanges 18 of which receive between them a rod or tube 9 for supporting the envelope. At least one of the ends of the envelope is cut in a plane at an acute angle to the plane normal to the long axis so that the length of the envelope above the supporting channel is shorter than the length of the lower side. Slots 21, 22 may be provided on one or both sides of the channel to receive reflecting plates 16. Light refracting prisms for direction control of the light may be formed on the inside of the envelope during extrusion and may cover the whole or part only of the surface. Parts not provided with prisms may be provided with diffusive reeding. |
