Purifying weak acidic cation exchange resin comprises (a) converting the weak acidic cation exchange resin, which is essentially present in neutralized salt form, into a weak acidic cation exchange resin in hydrogen form by regeneration with an acidic regeneration agent, and (b) contacting the weak acidic cation exchange resin in hydrogen form with vapor (0.1-0.9 kg) at a resin bed temperature of 100-180[deg] C for at least 1 hour. Independent claims are included for: (1) treating water for use as drinking water, comprising contacting water to be treated with a bed of the weak of acidic, cation exchange resin; and (2) use of the vapor for reducing the leaching of the weak-acidic cation exchangers, which is a copolymer of poly(acrylic acid), crosslinked poly(methacrylic acid), hydrolyzed, crosslinked poly((1-4C) alkylacrylate) or hydrolyzed, crosslinked poly(acrylonitrile). |
