PURPOSE: An MIDI(Musical Instrument Digital Interface) reproduction device for connecting an external device and a method thereof are provided to utilize an MIDI reproduction or generation function of an MIDI synthesizer by connecting the external device. CONSTITUTION: An external MIDI signal generation unit(257) dynamically generates an MIDI command from output data of an external device. An MIDI control unit(259) assigns the generated MIDI command and an MIDI command for a plurality of MIDI instruments of a selected MIDI file to each MIDI track and dynamically outputs the MIDI command. When an MIDI instrument, which is set in the external device, corresponds to one of MIDI instruments, the MIDI control unit omits output of the MIDI command for one MIDI instrument.
