The method involves utilizing gas as a transmission medium and detecting a position of a diaphragm as a deviation from its resting position. The position of the diaphragm is detected, when the diaphragm takes a position outside a positioning area assumes around a resting position of the diaphragm. The pressure of the transferring gas is changed in a measuring space, such that the diaphragm is returned to a position inside the position area around the resting position. An independent claim is included for a pressure measuring system with a pressure measuring element.
