A method for evaluating cathodic protection of an electrically conductive object 32 comprises the steps of providing an electrically conductive probe 22 comprising at least a pair of spaced apart contact electrodes 26, 28, placing the contact electrodes in electric contact with the object to be inspected, measuring electric resistance 40 between the contact electrodes when in contact with the object and measuring electric potential difference 38 between at least one of the contact electrodes and at least one other electrode. The at least one other electrode may comprise another electrode of the at least two contact electrodes. Alternatively, the at least one other electrode may be a reference electrode 34. Preferably the method further comprises the step of ascertaining whether or not adequate electric contact has been established between the probe and the object based on the measurements of the value of resistance between the electrodes when in contact with the object. Also disclosed is an apparatus 20 for evaluating cathodic protection suitable for use in the method of the invention. |
