METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENCODING AND DECODING USING ADAPTIVE BIT DEPTH DECREASING

PURPOSE: An encoding and decoding method using adaptive bit depth reduction and a device thereof are provided to prevent an image from being encoded at an excessive bit depth by adaptively selecting and performing bit depth reduction by macro block unit. CONSTITUTION: An encoding device includes a bit depth control unit(110), a bit depth reducing unit(120), a bit depth quantization unit(130), and a bit depth increasing unit(140). When the bit depth control unit determines the bit depth reduction of an input signal, the bit depth reducing unit reduces a bit depth of the input signal. The bit depth reducing unit shifts the bit depth as much as a selected value to reduce the bit depth or reduces the bit depth by using a mapping table.
