The method involves switching on of the light while standing up or sitting of the user lying on the bed, and automatically determined whether the previously lying user has changed his position to another position, which is not the lying position, such as sitting on the bed with his foot down. The switching on of the light is activated on detecting the non-lying position of the user. The lying position of the user on the bed is automatically determined, and the light is switched off on determining the lying position of the user. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for automatically determining the position, in which a user is lying on a bed; and (2) a device for controlling lighting of a room, in which a sleeping bed is placed.
