The method involves providing a set of permanent magnets (26). The permanent magnets are coated with a solidifyable coating material, where thermally and irreversibly expanding microspheres are embedded into the coating material. The coating material is solidified for formation of a solidified coating, where the coating material is thermoplastic polymer, silicone rubber or cold-hardening polymeric resin. The coated permanent magnets are inserted into recesses (20) of a rotor base body (18). The base body including the permanent magnets is temporarily heated at a process temperature. An independent claim is also included for a permanent magnet-excited electric machine.
