In a process for the extraction of dihydroperoxides produced by the oxidation of aromatic dialkyl compounds of the formula <FORM:0921557/IV(a)/1> wherein Ar represents an aromatic residue and R indicates an alkyl group or a hydrogen atom, said dihydroperoxides being extracted from aqueous alkaline solutions thereof by means of organic solvents, the extraction from the alkaline solution containing the dihydroperoxide is carried out at temperatures between approximately 30 DEG and 100 DEG C. and the alkaline solution is extracted with the same or a smaller quantity by weight of the organic solvent. After the extraction of the dihydroperoxide the alkaline solution may be returned through a circulatory system to the stage in which the mixture produced during oxidation is extracted with the alkaline solution. Solvents listed for use in the extraction include various ketones, ethers, carbon tetrachloride and alcohols. In the example m-diisopropyl benzene dihydroperoxide is extracted from an aqueous solution containing sodium hydroxide with methyl isobutyl ketone at 75 DEG C. Specification 746,388 is referred to. |
