The projection lens of a slide projector is mounted for lengthwise movement within a lens mounting by actuating means including an actuating member rotatably mounted in said lens mounting and engaging with a follower on the lens and rotated by power means. As shown, an eccentric disc 320 on a shaft 322 carries a lug 330 which engages in a helical groove 331 on the lens 2. To effect focusing when the lens slide without rotating in its mounting in the projector the shaft 322 may be rotated by gearing 340 . . . 343 from a worm 219 driven by a motor 218 or by a ratchet wheel indexed always in the same direction by ratchet teeth on the armature of an electromagnet or a lever operated thereby (Figs. 8, 9, 10 and 12 (not shown)). Instead of moving the lens directly, the lug may reciprocate a sleeve in which the lens is rotatably adjustable (Fig. 11, not shown). The switch for energizing the motor or armature may be arranged in a common housing with that for the relay controlling slide changing as described in Specification 922,711.
