PURPOSE: An image format conversion method for a 3D television receiver and a device thereof are provided to convert left/right images of an interlaced scanning image format which is decoded in the 3D television receiver into a top/bottom 3D image format, thereby transmitting the left/right images to a general 3D television. CONSTITUTION: A reference image decoder(350) decodes an encoded reference image of a first format which includes an interlaced scanning format. An additional image decoder(360) decodes an encoded additional image of the first format which includes the interlaced scanning format. A 3D format converter(370) generates a 3D image of a progressive scanning format.
