PURPOSE: A display device and a control method are provided to automatically control movement speed of a pointer, thereby improving user convenience and pointing accuracy. CONSTITUTION: A receiving unit(110) receives a user command from an input device. A pointer control unit(120) generates a pointer and moves the pointer based on a pointer movement command of a user. A display unit(130) displays the pointer and an image including UI(User Interface) objects. A control unit(140) controls the pointer control unit in order to control movement speed of the pointer corresponding to density of a UI object. The control unit determines the image by dividing the image into a first area and a second area. When the pointer is positioned in the first area, the movement speed of the pointer is slower than a case that the pointer is positioned in the second area.
