PURPOSE: A display device and a control method are provided to simplify and give intuition to a UI(User Interface), thereby conveniently using a function of the display device. CONSTITUTION: An image processing unit(11) processes an image signal. A display unit(12) displays an image on a screen based on the image signal. A user input unit(13) includes a touch pad which receives touch input of a user. A control unit(14) displays a first UI of a function of a category corresponding to an area, which first touch input is received, on the screen for the first touch input which is received to one of edge areas of the touch pad corresponding to edge areas of the screen. The control unit performs the function corresponding to the first touch input.
