<p>PURPOSE: An air conditioner and a controlling method thereof are provided to solve a flow rate balance of a heat exchanger in the air conditioner forming a plurality of cycles and to prevent an excessive increase in a load of a specific cycle, thereby controlling the operation of the air conditioner. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner comprises a first temperature sensor(161), second temperature sensors(162), a main control unit(51), and cycle control units(121-123). The first temperature sensor, which is installed in an inflow pipe connected to a plurality of water cooling type heat exchangers, measure the temperature of the water flowing into the inflow pipe. The second temperature sensors, which are arranged in outflow pipes connected respectively to the water cooling type heat exchangers, measures the temperature of the water discharging through the outflow pipes. The main control unit compares the temperature measured by the first temperature sensor and the temperature measured by the second temperature sensors, thereby calculating loads to cycles connected to the water cooling type heat exchangers respectively and generating control commands to the overloaded cycle. The cycle control unit controls the overloaded cycle according to the control commands of the main control unit.
