The method involves reading an identifier i.e. application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) identifier, of an integrated circuit to be traced by another integrated circuit of a controller. An identifier i.e. batch identifier, of the former integrated circuit is read by an optical reader. An identifier i.e. electronic control unit (ECU) identifier, of the controller comprising the former integrated circuit is read by the latter integrated circuit. A traceability table associating the ASIC and the batch identifiers with the ECU identifier is recorded in a data base by a processing device.
