925,509. Ceramic-metal seals. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 5, 1960 [July 29, 1959], No. 26057/59. Class 56. In a ceramic-metal seal, the metal part comprises a body of sintered tungsten whose interstices are filled before or during the sealing process with sufficient silver-copper alloy to equate the thermal expansion of the metal to that of the ceramic, this alloy also serving to make the seal between the tungsten and the ceramic. The alloy is preferably a eutectic having a melting point of 779‹ C., and the sintered body is composed of particles of about 10 microns sintered to about 12.5 gms./c.c. The surface of the ceramic body may be metallized by coating the surface with a metallic paste as described in Specification 656,724.
