<p>PURPOSE: An image forming device and a method for booting an image forming device including a hibernation function are provided to prevent booting unavailability caused by errors of a storage device of the image forming device by performing hibernation booting based on a flag indicating the activation of the hibernation function recorded in the image forming device. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(110) loads a kernel and a boot loader stored in an image forming device. When the booting of the image forming is started, a checking unit(130) checks errors of a storage device(60) storing a boot image based on a flag indicating the activation of a hibernation function. When the storage device is normally checked, a booting unit(120) boots the system using the boot image. When the flag indicates the activation of the hibernation function, the checking unit checks the errors of the storage device. When the checking is completed, the control unit changes the flag to a state indicating the inactivation of the function.
