PURPOSE: A gesture mode switching method and a multimedia device using the same are provided to conveniently and easily switch a gesture mode without finding a menu for entering the mode. CONSTITUTION: A touch screen(140) receives the touch manipulation of a user. A camera module(150) photographs a subject. A face detecting unit(160) analyzes a face part of the face part. When a touch satisfying a setting condition is inputted through the touch screen, a control unit(120) switches a touch input mode into a gesture input mode. When actions related to each part of the face are sensed through the face detecting unit, the control unit executes a command corresponding to the actions.
