<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an epoxy resin, by which total chlorine including organically bound chlorine can be efficiently removed while suppressing the generation of a gel component, and to provide an epoxy resin obtained by the production method, and an epoxy resin composition containing the epoxy resin. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing an epoxy resin includes: (1) a step of dissolving a chlorine-containing crude epoxy resin in a solvent containing a solvent having an amide group to prepare a solution; and (2) a step of treating the solution prepared in the step (1) with a metal alkoxide compound to obtain an epoxy resin having a reduced chlorine content.
