<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus employing an optimal method for controlling a carriage so that an impact on the carriage can be reduced during adjustment in the height of the carriage without increasing cost of a motor and another height adjustment mechanism part nor upsizing the apparatus due to complicated and large-sized mechanism parts. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes a height adjustment mechanism to adjust the height of the carriage 4 and a guide member 3 to guide the carriage in a width direction of a recording medium. The height adjustment mechanism has a cam member 502, and rotation guide members 503, 504. Pressing members 603, 604 for actuating a cam are provide an apparatus body. Contactness of the guide members with the pressing members actuates the cam, so that the height of the carriage is adjusted. At any timing while the carriage is moved from one end of the guide members to the other end of the guide members in adjustment of height from a higher position to a lower position, the speed of carriage is controlled to a lower speed than in image formation, so the guide members contact with the pressing members at a low speed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
