METHOD FOR POLARIZING TERAHERTZ ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE USING POLARIZER, AND POLARIZER

<p>The present invention provides a new method of polarizing a terahertz electromagnetic wave using a polarizer. The polarizer has a sapphire single crystal layer and a CaxCoO2 crystal layer. The CaxCoO2 crystal layer is laminated on the sapphire single crystal layer. The surface of the CaxCoO2 crystal layer has a (100) plane orientation. The CaxCoO2 crystal layer has a thickness of 2 to 20 µm inclusive. The method according to the present invention comprises irradiating a polarizer with an electromagnetic wave with a frequency of 0.1 THz to 0.8 THz and emitting an output wave with only a component parallel to the c-axis direction of a sapphire single crystal layer.</p>
