A bodily fluid absorbent core 40 for a bodily fluid absorbent article is formed with one or more elongated depressions 43. The core 40 includes one or more surface layers 105 and one or more inner sections 105 lying inside the one or more surface layers 105. The one or more surface layers 105 are formed primarily of liquid-absorbent fibers and the one or more inner sections 106 are formed of the liquid-absorbent fibers and superabsorbent polymer particles.
