Compact device (1) for processing payment instruments (2), comprising a system for introducing (3), a system for receiving (4) at output, digitalisation means (5, 15) for the front and back sides of the payment instruments, means for reading (6) magnetic characters, means for marking or encoding (7) on the front side of the payment instruments (2), means for endorsing (8) the back side of the payment instruments (2) and means for conveying that comprise a first conveying assembly (10) driven by a first motor, alongside which digitalisation means (5) for the front side of the payment instruments and the means for reading (6) are arranged, and a second conveying assembly (12) driven by a second motor, alongside which are arranged the marking or encoding means (7), followed by the endorsing means (8) and second digitalisation means (15) for the back side of the payment instruments, the first and second motors being independent and asynchronous.
