摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding method for an outer joint member, as well as an outer joint member, which is suitable for a long stem type constant velocity universal joint having a stable quality based on sure inspection of a welding part, with improved quality in the welding part and reduction in manufacturing cost due to skipping or reduction in additional step or post-step. <P>SOLUTION: In an outer joint member 11 of a constant velocity universal joint 10, a cup part 12 where a track groove 30 engaged with a torque transmission element 19 is formed on an inner periphery thereof, a shaft part 13 formed at a bottom part of the cup part 12, is configured with at least two separate members, and a cup member 12a forming the cup part 12 and a shaft member 13b forming the shaft part 13 are joined together. In a welding method therefor, the cup member 12a and the shaft member 13b have a shape which forms a closed hollow void part 47 when end parts 72, 73, 74, and 75 thereof are abutted with each other. Under a condition in which the hollow void part 47 is under an atmospheric pressure or less, the end parts 72, 73, 74 and 75 formed when the cup member 12a and the shaft member 13b are abutted with each other are melted and weld. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
