Separating means for adjacent turns of a coil of film comprises a strip 11 (Fig.3) with holes 12 along at least one edge which are engaged by a helical spring 14. In other embodiments a second row of holes is arranged adjacent the first with the holes staggered and the spring is threaded through both sets of holes, or the second set of holes may be replaced by staggered notches along the edge of the strip. In the developing apparatus shown in Fig. 10, two adjacent supports 31a, 31b with light-tight hoods 30a, 30b are arranged as shown and support spindles 39, 41, 42 carrying spools for the combined film and separator means, the film, and the separator means respectively. The leading ends of the film and said means are attached to spool 1 which is then rotated by means 37 so that the film and the means are wound on to spool 1 which then has a rubber ring snapped round it to make it liquid- and light-tight. The spool is then rotated through 90 degrees about pivot 5 and developing and washing liquid is fed through it by means shown in Fig. 9. These means comprise a reservoir of developer liquid 20 which, when valves 24, 25 are closed, is pumped through pipes 17 and through inlets and outlets 3 and hence through the sealed spool 1. The pump is then stopped, when valve 22 may be opened and the liquid drained off. Washing liquid may be supplied through pipe 23 when valve 25 is opened and valve 24 is closed. A fan may be provided on spool 1 to dry the film. The separating means may have spring or magnetic means for holding it in a coiled position round the spool. The strip and spring may both be of stainless steel. |
