摘要 928,598. Bearings. S. SOLOMON. March 24, 1960 [April 2, 1959], No. 10474/60. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXXI] A bottom bracket bearing assembly for cycles comprises an axle 1 and spaced ball- or roller-bearings of which inner races 2 turn with the axle and outer races are each provided by, or mounted within, one end of a cup 4, the other end of which is secured in the bracket O. The tapered rollers 3, Fig. 1, have coned inner races 2 and outer races which are tapered portions 6 of the cups 4. The cups, having dust caps 5 thereon, are screw-threaded at 7 and are received by internally-threaded portions of the bracket O. The bearings are held in position by a chain-wheel 12 and nuts 9, 9<SP>1</SP>. In a modification, the rollers are replaced by balls, the inner races 2 being grooved to receive the balls, and the cups 4, Fig. 3, have cylindrical inner surfaces which serve as the outer races. The rollers may be barrel-shaped, the races being formed accordingly, and the balls or rollers may be caged.
