The present invention reduces the size of a feature amount while maintaining the accuracy of identifying a photographic subject. A local feature amount extraction device is provided with: a feature point detection unit for detecting multiple feature points within an image and for outputting feature point information pertaining to each feature point; a feature point selection unit for selecting a predetermined number of feature points in the order of importance from among the detected feature points on the basis of the feature point information; a local region acquisition unit for acquiring the local region of each of the selected feature points; a sub region division unit for dividing each local region into multiple sub regions; a sub region feature vector generation unit for generating a feature vector having multiple dimensions for each sub region within each local region; and a dimension selection unit which selects, on the basis of the positional relationship of the sub regions within each local region, a dimension from the feature vector for each sub region such that the correlation between the adjacent sub regions becomes lower and which outputs the element of the selected dimension as the feature amount of the local region.
