The method involves detecting a cylinder pressure measurement value (101) using a cylinder pressure sensor of a combustion engine. A cylinder pressure model value (102) is computed by a computing unit using a cylinder pressure model. Deviation (103) between the cylinder pressure measurement value and the cylinder pressure model value is determined by the computing unit. The deviation is compared with a threshold value, and a predetermined functionality i.e. correcting function, of the engine is activated or deactivated based on a comparison result. An independent claim is also included for a computing unit.
