<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retractable rear body hoist unit which allows a rear body to be drawn into a lower space of a vehicle at right timing upon a storage operation. <P>SOLUTION: The retractable rear body hoist unit, which houses a rear body 5 in space on the lower side of a vehicle, includes position detection means 18 and 28 for detecting a setting position in the course of rising up to a retracted height of the rear body 5 and a retracted height position and a control means which not only decreases a rising speed of the rear body 5 when the rear body 5 reaches the setting position but also switches operations of the rear body 5 from rising to sliding when the rear body 5 reaches the retracted height position based on signals from the position detection means 18 and 28.
