OBSTACLE DETECTOR AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect an obstacle present before with simple constitution.

SOLUTION: A headlight projection device irradiates the area before it so that a cutline border part at an upper-end part of an irradiated area irradiated with light changes in lightness. An imaging device 12 images the area before a local vehicle. A cutline detection part 20 detects a pair of edges of the cutline border part on the basis of change in luminance in a height direction from the picked-up image. An obstacle detection part 22 detects an obstacle present before the local vehicle on the basis of the height-directional width of the pair of detected edges of the cutline border part.
