<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium for thermally assisted recording which can make high density writing performance compatible with control of good temperature characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium comprises at least an under-layer, a magnetic recording layer, and a protective layer sequentially laminated on a nonmagnetic substrate. The magnetic recording layer comprises structure comprising at least two magnetic layers, and an exchange coupling control layer inserted between the magnetic layers and being magnetically coupled through the magnetic layers. In the magnetic recording medium for thermally assisted recording, coupling energy J<SB POS="POST">w</SB>when writing a signal and coupling energy J<SB POS="POST">r</SB>in a state of retaining a signal satisfy relation of 0<J<SB POS="POST">w</SB><J<SB POS="POST">r</SB>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
