A method of prognosing a health problem of an electrical, mechanical or electro-mechanical apparatus such as a jet engine (12) based on radiation emitted by the apparatus (12) where the method includes establishing a profile for the apparatus (12) while the apparatus (12) is operating, saving such a profile for the apparatus (12), forming a set of historical profiles for a number of apparatuses (12), and identifying at least one anomaly in the set of historical profiles that is indicative of a future failure.
